I hope this message finds you and your families’ safe and staying healthy. We wanted to provide an update regarding The Scott-Free Scholarship Foundation’s position on returning campers to summer camp in 2020. While considering the guidelines from the CDC, along with recommendations from local and national health officials to maintain the barriers of social distancing, the Board of Directors has arrived at the decision… Scott-Free will not be offering scholarships to send children to onsite summer camp programs in 2020.
It is almost impossible to keep even 2 children separate from one another in any situation. I asked myself, how can children be expected to maintain barriers of social distancing in summer camp… While disappointment hovers over this decision, to unknowingly expose any child to anything that may be undetectable would be reckless. We all know the challenges and obstacles associated with COVID 19 will pass with time; but until it does, we will err on the side of protecting the health and well-being of children, the camp staff who mentor them and their respective families who will be waiting when they return home.
Scott-Free looks forward to reuniting children with their friends once it is appropriate to do so. Our hope is that every child will return to summer camp in 2021 with confidence that they will be able to do what comes naturally, play, learn and have fun! As always, our sincere gratitude and appreciation goes to our camp partners for their years of generosity and support. It is the foundation of what allows Scott-Free to provide summer camp opportunities to children.
